Recapitulation - recovery, restoration and undoing.

Recapitulation concerns undoing the negative influences of the past. Negative means not only those influences that we find unpleasant but also those that are based in ignorance - not knowing the true nature of things. In this recapitulation programme participants will have the opportunity to understand through direct perception as well as reflection, why behaviour patterns are in place and will discover the remedies and behavioural antidotes. The reflective process can direct our attention towards patterns and the need to release them, yet it is the energetic work in this recapitulation process that provides the effective remedy.
This work is aimed at those who recognise already the need to release habit patterns of the past as a means to opening the way forward.
This course will be open to all subject to having undertaken at least the minimum preparation (see below under the heading ‘When will the programme begin?).
The modern Toltec tradition provides perhaps the most famous recapitulation technique, thanks to the works of Carlos Castaneda and his various students. Many spiritual traditions have methods for recovering, untangling, undoing or restoring the energy body through techniques that let go of the past.
A method by itself does not ensure clear and full restoration, yet without a method we cannot let go of what ails us, nor can we renew our being; simply wishing to be rid of past habit patterns and past influences is not enough. Yet we must at least have the wish in place.

The Work
The work proposed will draw on some of the methods of the modern Toltecs: Ram Chatlani has had the benefit of working with Victor Sanchez, Ken Eagle Feather and Merrilyn Tunneshende in this area of work, all of whom have a direct connection either with Carlos Castaneda or with don Juan Matus himself. Each of them presented him with different techniques and proposals regarding recapitulation, from the very simple to the highly complex.
Teaching and exploring various means of effective recapitulation for more than 10 years and having undertaken his own extensive programme in 1998, it is clear to Ram that the work is efficient, yet there is always room for refinement of the technique.
After the workshop is completed, each individual will take away a personal and individual practice...
This method Ram is proposing is not new. What are new are the approach and the mix of sources and techniques. In some respects it is an easier approach in terms of the volume of work, in other respects it is harder because it will rely to a great extent on the quality of mind that is brought to the work.
The Toltec tradition will provide a fundamental framework for the outer aspects of the work, together with energetic work that will include meditation techniques drawn from the Vigyan Bhairav Tantra (‘Tantra’ in this case means simply ‘technique’) and natural shamanic elements, as a means to allow ‘empty reflection’ to arise and thereby give insight.
After the workshop is completed, each individual will take away a personal and individual practice that should be undertaken for 3 months at least. The practical ‘antidote’ effectively casts or crystallizes the energetic and behavioural process. Ultimately, the whole process is capable of harmonising the whole being offering a very different perspective on the notion of “I”. Post recapitulation a very strong non-personal understanding of individuality arises and founds a more naturally purposive approach to life.
When will the programme begin?
The 2009 workshop begins on Saturday evening 4th April 6.30 pm and finishes on Thursday 9th April 12.00 midday. Participants will all have undertaken preparatory work and must have registered for the course by 1st March 2009 at the latest. The preparatory tasks and programme will be delivered in stages:
- 1st module 16th January
- 2nd module 13th February
- 3rd module 13th March
Minimum preparation is module 3.
