The 100 Days
For nearly two year a group of around 30 people, 20 in France, 10 in England, have undertaken a body of work known as the 100 days.
Many people have asked about joining the 100 days since it began, expressing an interest in taking part in the work and the study.
The 100 days group began as a response to the interest shown in the possibility of undertaking practical applications of the esoteric teachings of Lao Tzu. These teachings are referred to as esoteric because they are much less widely known than the teachings of the Tao Te Ching.
The 100 days structure
The 100 days has an inner and an outer structure. The inner structure is the personal application and study of the teachings. The outer structure is in the 81 lessons that are delivered once weekly. Every fourth week there is a review with special exercises and work of a different nature. In all, the work will endure for 102 weeks. The taoists used the term 100 days in the same way that they used the term the ten thousand things, or the 100 steps. In the case of the 100 days, it is a period that is determined by the needs and the possibilities of the participants, taking into account the modern age, rather than a predictive time span. It also reflects the depth of the work and its reliance upon contemplation and daily practical application. Participants are invited to undertake daily practice, but the work does not demand that time be set aside. The work takes place constantly, throughout our daily lives, for as long and as consistently as our minds can gently open to the significant changes in perception undertaking this work generates.
The 100 days is a rare opportunity to learn and practise
Taoist teachings through the experience of our everyday lives, to
deepen our understanding of the conditions necessary for transformation
and, perhaps, to move a little closer. It is undoubtedly life-changing
The work is not conceptual nor is it reliant on any specific dogma. Taoist texts are used, but these serve only as a guide. This is a path to individual realisation, independence and personal freedom. It is not a fanciful process or teaching. It is based in verifiable wisdom and insight in meditation that is made accessible through movement and stillness. There are positive benefits for the health and harmony of the individual.
What the work involves
The daily life application of ancient wisdom in the 100 days requires consistency, determination, willingness to let go, to release negative habit patterns and to understand the true foundation of all phenomena be it matter, change or mind. The process, the practice and the application can lead us to glimpse the ultimate truth and to begin to receive the deep peace and tranquility this bestows. Some call it grace. It is better to know it directly than to be able to give it a name.

All those who have made enquiries about a new group are familiar to some extent with the nature of the work of The Whispered Teachings. It is hoped that new members might also be drawn to this work. In order that this might occur, The Whispered Teachings is offering an open class to introduce the 100 days to all prospective participants and to those who wish to feel the nature of the work through direct contact. This will include some movement and meditation as well as interpersonal exchanges and discussions. Existing members of the 100 days will form a part of the introductory class.
All those involved have found inspiration in this work and many of those who have expressed an interest in joining have done so because they have sensed the gentle impact of this work through their contact with existing participants. This work is not strongly promoted, it evolves as a response to the willingness of people to undertake it. We hope that by offering an introductory class, sufficient energy and interest will be established to begin a new group. This being the case, those who wish to join the group will be expected to attend an introductory workshop at Ram’s rural retreat in SW France, from Friday 26th – Sunday 28th September.
Here then is an opportunity to take part in a class that will give you the chance to get a flavour of the energy of the work, through contact with past participants and through meeting with Ram Chatlani.
