Taoist Longevity Breathing & Meditation
T
his training is aimed to give an introduction to breathing and meditation techniques. The methods combine Taoist, Buddhist and Yogic techniques: essentially the components common to all are the development of concentration, the lengthening and softening of the breath, the development of mindfulness and the harmonious mind. The emphasis will be on learning the Taoist method of circular breathing with elements of other traditions being referred to from an experiential but comparative perspective when appropriate.
The Taoist breathing method is like all Taoist methodology, pragmatic with its emphasis on feeling and healing the body with longevity as the result, essentially giving us more time to develop stillness, profound relaxation and inner silence as precursors to oneness with the Tao.
Taoist breathing is gentle and progressive leading to astounding and sometimes exceptional abilities.
Taoist breathing is gentle and progressive leading to astounding and sometimes exceptional abilities. It puts us in touch with what we are and who we are, from a place of undeniable experience within the physical body.
Over the course of the week there will be ample opportunity to enter into the techniques quite profoundly, with sessions split between sitting, standing and moving meditation. The training will focus on internal awareness, the developing of the harmonious mind and the use of Taoist breathing techniques as a means of achieving longevity, good health or specific healing as well as developing good concentration. Meditation will take place sitting, standing and during Chi Gung (Qigong) exercises.
Participants will seek to establish the best possible foundation for personal practice. Emphasis in the teaching will be to learn the physiology of Taoist breathing—essentially how to maximise the use of oxygen and how to develop improved deep breathing through re-patterning the nervous system, which allows release of habitual patterns of shallow breathing, often the cause of atrophied lungs in older age and other sickness associated with lack of oxygenation.
Beginners as well as those with previous experience of any techniques will be welcome and will find the training and the tools employed to be of enormous value.
